This year the Saint Viator community has welcomed many new faces. One of them being Ms. Boris, a theology teacher, who has quickly become a valued part of the Viator family. Even though she is new, she has already made a strong impression on both students and staff.
She attended Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, where she began to shape her professional path. Interestingly, Ms. Boris did not always know she wanted to become a teacher. She originally pursued a career in youth ministry in Catholic churches but realized that she wanted to see the same students every day and make a more consistent impact. “I decided to become a teacher because I could be with the same kids every day,” said Ms. Boris. Ms. Boris comes to Viator with extensive teaching experience. She spent three years teaching high school in Minnesota. Afterwards, she moved on to teach at two more high schools, Regina Dominican for seven years and Rosary for one year. Both of these schools were all-girls institutions, giving her a unique perspective on teaching in different classroom settings.
Ms. Boris is deeply involved in the lives of her three Godchildren: Arlo, Kayla, and Cassidy. She enjoys spending time with them and watching them grow. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys a variety of hobbies. She loves being outdoors, whether camping or taking the boat out on the lake. She also enjoys baking. One of her favorite teaching memories was when Pope Leo was announced as pope. Being able to share that moment with her students was very special. It was a moment that reminded her why she loves teaching and being part of students’ learning experiences.
Adjusting to the Viator community has been smoother than she expected. Moving from a smaller school to a larger co-ed environment was intimidating at first, but she has found the students to be respectful and self-advocating. “The transition has been very smooth, though I’m still adjusting my teaching style,” said Ms. Boris. Junior Will DiMarco has been able to connect with his faith through her class. “Ms. Boris’s class allows me to find God through learning, ” said DiMarco.
One piece of advice Ms. Boris offers to remember that no matter what you’re going through, someone else is experiencing it as well and you’re not alone.
She wraps it up by saying, “God is always there for you. Never forget that you are loved.”
