As the incredible musician Billy Joel once said, music is and always has been “an explosive expression of humanity,” and “something we are all touched by.” A uniting factor in society, music brings people together so that they can enjoy and experience this piece of art. With music and pop culture going hand in hand, people of all ages are always on the edge of their seats to see which of their favorite artists are going to release something next. However, a new trend in music has become more apparent in the last few years; more and more new artists seem to pop up and blow up overnight. Some of these newcomers have already left their mark on the music industry, and they deserve to be acknowledged for the name they’ve made for themselves in such a brief time.
Making their debut in the summer of 2024 as an international girl group, Katseye has had everyone in a chokehold as of late. The group being made up of six extraordinary women (Yoonchae, Lara, Megan, Daniela, Sophia, and Manon), Katseye is a girl group with a talent and reputation reminiscent of Destiny’s Child or The Spice Girls. Releasing their first single fittingly named “Debut” in June 2024, the group hit the ground running. Going on to release hits such as “Touch,” “Gnarly,” and “Gabriela,” the group has stolen the hearts of millions, reaching the status of 202nd most streamed artist on Spotify as of September 2025. The girls have been especially praised for their choreographical talents, their quick and almost fluid dance moves leaving all who see them astonished. Despite all of the fame Katseye has already amassed, the girls show no sign of slowing down, with their latest song, “Gameboy,” leaving their fans eager and hungry for more.
Donning the self-appointed moniker of “your favorite artist’s favorite artist” and “your dream girl’s dream girl,” Chappel Roan has become a household name for many. Hitting a rocky patch in the road for the first 10 or so years of her career, Chappel remained a nobody, and she began to lose hope of ever becoming famous. However, things started looking up for her when she released her first studio album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” in late 2023. Boasting fan-favorites such as “Hot to Go!” and “Red Wine Supernova,” the album slowly grew a cult following of people who adored Chappel for her unparalleled vocals and charm. Then, the world stopped moving when Chappel Roan released the song “Good Luck Babe!” The track’s retro feel, paired with her unbelievable belting capabilities, drew in everyone’s attention. The song has become a behemoth in terms of popularity, gaining over one and half billion Spotify streams since its release; it also garnered heavy critical acclaim, being ranked as the 3rd best song of 2024 by Pitchfork. Ever since “Good Luck Babe!” launched Chappel into stardom, she has managed to stay relevant throughout 2025, releasing yet another hit single, “The Subway,” in July of this year. With “The Subway” having a similar grasp over pop culture to the one “Good Luck Babe!” had, fans are ecstatic to see how Chappel Roan can shock the world next.
While it is to a much smaller magnitude compared to Chappel Roan’s claim to fame, Laufey’s rise in the music industry involves just as much raw talent and determination. An Icelandic jazz-pop singer known for her smooth blending of the two genres, Laufey has been one of the leading forces in the resurgence of jazz in pop culture. After she released her first EP titled “Typical of Me” in the spring of 2021, she stayed under the public radar for a while. However, when Laufey released her song “Falling Behind” in 2022, more people began to take notice of her. Laufey’s soft and saccharine appearance appealed to many, and her adorable connection with her twin sister Julia, captivated many. After releasing two more albums, “Everything I Know about Love” and “Bewitched,” as well as another extremely successful single titled “From the Start,” her following continued to expand. Then, just this August, she released her 3rd album, “A Matter of Time.” With singles like “Silver Lining” and “Tough Luck” exciting fans before the full albums release, Laufey proved that her talent and charm kept people coming back for more. Additionally, tracks like “Lover Girl” and “Cuckoo Ballet (Interlude)” exemplify her mastery of the bossa nova and classical genres respectively. With her discography only being around half a decade old, fans are sure that more excellent music is to come.
Without music, it’s quite difficult to see where society would be, and how the individuals within it would fare. Music is therapeutic for many, while some are content with simply putting on their favorite song and just enjoying it as they are. So people cannot underestimate the importance of people like Katseye, Chappel Roan, and Laufey creating magnificent art that helps get everyone through each day.
