Whether needing to grab a caffeinated drink to kick start the morning or wishing to grab a melty grilled cheese to devour at lunch, one can always rely on the Red Lion Food Court to provide delicious food and refreshing drinks that satisfy your taste buds.
The Red Lion Food Court, located in the heart of Querbes Hall, has been serving the Saint Viator community for many years, with cooks working around the clock to provide students and staff the fuel they need to get through days of demanding academics. Every day when it comes time for the lunch rush, students dash to get in line to be served their favorite meals, from hamburgers to pasta to wraps and a variety of other options.
What some may not come to realize, however, is all the hard work that goes into meal planning and preparing to serve the hundreds of hungry Lions.
“I work here for eight hours every day” said Chef Blanca, while cooking up another batch of quesadillas. She explains how the kitchen staff maintains organization, with each worker being assigned their own individual tasks and working continuously to make sure that students and staff are satisfied with what they receive.
“We get here early every morning to begin cooking meals and baking goods, and all the desserts you see out on display I bake myself,” said Chef Blanca.
The Red Lion Food Court gives back to the Saint Viator community in more ways than students may initially think. While there’s certainly the convenience of ordering lunch at school rather than making one’s own, the meals also contain good sources of proteins, carbohydrates, and nutrients that some may not have access to at home. The kitchen staff strives to guarantee that what patrons are served every day is of high quality and most certainly scrumptious. With that, the Saint Viator community continues to express their gratitude.
“I like that the meals are consistent and you know what’s going to be on the menu,” said senior Lexi Horn.
She shares that the chicken wraps are among one of her favorite items.
“The chicken quesadillas are so good, and the workers are very sweet,” said senior Stella Zafiris.
“The cookies are my favorite!” said senior Maggie Ratzki.
So the next time you decide to order a meal from the Red Lion Food Court, consider thanking the kitchen staff for their service, as they are continuing to change the lives of the Saint Viator community one meal at a time.
