Podcasts have exploded in popularity over the past couple years. In this year alone, Spotify will rake in $414 million from only podcasts. Podcasts and other digital media provide a unique view of many stories in conversation style episodes. Saint Viator students have capitalized this opportunity to bring digital entertainment to the school in the form of a club. If students enjoy tech, love to tell stories, or looking for a creative outlet, they should consider joining. Broadcasting Club focuses on creating digital content for the school.
“Right now we are working on creating a promo video for the talent show, making morning video announcements, and producing a podcast. The group is also open to whatever the group members want,” said Mr. Zimmerman, the sponsor of Broadcasting Club.
Broadcasting Club can help anyone master the art of communication while having lots of fun in the company of friends. He added on saying that the broadcasting club is a lot more than just making videos. This club can give many students an idea of future career opportunities.
“This club can lead you to career interests that you never even knew existed,” said Mr. Zimmerman.
This entails career opportunities like a sports commentator, a radio host, a social media manager for a major brand, filmmaker, or TV producer. In this club there are many different roles that can be filled; from writing the scripts, editing both the scripts and the videos, and producing content. Mr. Zimmerman talked about how there are different opportunities for everyone depending on what they like.
“Our video creation has opportunities to be in front of the camera talking, or behind the camera capturing it all. You can choose whatever suits you best,” he said.
He went on to talk about how Broadcasting Club can get students prepared for the future.
“Digital content creation is not going away and that is a lot of what happens here,” he said.
The best thing about broadcasting is the ability to connect large audiences with information, news, and entertainment in real time. Broadcasting allows people to experience things together, stay informed about current events and issues, and be entertained across many different platforms. Ultimately. Broadcasting Club is great for everyone. If students are interested in joining, they should reach out to either Mr. Zimmerman or the President of the Broadcasting Club, Xochitl Chury via email.
