Over the past year, AI has become a controversial and essential topic worldwide. People can find any answer they need whenever they need it. Also, many companies are creating versions of AI chatbots based on the original ChatGPT. “Now and Then,” by the Beatles, was not written by generative AI, though. The song was recorded using a technique called stem separation. This technique helped extract John Lennon’s voice and eliminate all the noise around him. John Lennon had recorded himself singing the lyrics to the song in 1977 on a tape recorder just three years before he was shot by a deranged fan.
The use of AI is purely the reason for the song’s fame; other than that, a band that broke up fifty years ago released a song. This means that AI did not write the whole song on its own. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr took the voice recording, finished the song, and gave it to the AI. If other famous artists were to use AI to create a song, people would react negatively. This is because celebrity singers are so much in the public eye that people would eventually find out if they used it to create a song. The singers’ popularity would decrease because their fans would feel they are fake and find the easy way. What would make it even worse is if the song became famous because the celebrities would practically lose their jobs, and the connection that fans feel with the singers would completely disappear. In our world right now, we can’t trust what is going on behind the scenes, so everyone is looking for authenticity in every aspect of their lives, even if they don’t know how to express it. However, the concerns about AI go further than the music industry. The idea of AI integration into our lives is to make it a helpful tool in how we do multiple things, but the concern is that it replaces humans, and if this goes further than the music industry, then it could be a real problem for humans in the future.
