“Mean Girls The Musical” will be returning to Chicago in November of 2024, starring Natalie Shaw as Cady Heron, Maya Petropoulos as Regina George, and Alexys Morera as Janis Sarkisian. Written by Tina Fey and composed by Jeff Richmond, this musical details Cady Heron’s journey from the Kenyan savannah to a high school in Evanston, Illinois. There, she meets “The Plastics”, a clique ruled by the domineering Regina George. When Regina finds out Cady has fallen in love with her ex-boyfriend, she takes him back at a Halloween party. Cady decides to get revenge and teams up with two of her friends to take down the Queen Bee once and for all. “Mean Girls the Musical” explores the themes of popularity, friendship, and being yourself, providing a learning experience for everyone watching.
This musical was nominated for Best Book of a Musical, Best Musical, Best Original Score, and many other awards, but ultimately did not win any. However, it is rated at a 4.5 on Ticketmaster and a 4.4 on Yelp, has had over 800 performances and made over $100 million after the first six weeks of performances. Part of the reason for its success might have been due to several different TikTok trends that have spread its popularity throughout the Internet, such as a girl. In addition, the musical’s theme of the costs of bullying was incredibly portrayed, and many people the message it spread.
This musical will be performed at the Auditorium Theatre, and will be shown 8 different times over the course of 5 days. Thousands of people will be seeing this popular musical soon—will you be one of them?
