Friday Double Feature: Terrifying Tales

The Orphanage
This Spanish film proves that there is no language barrier when it comes to horror. A woman moves her family into what used to be an orphanage, and her son befriends the ghost of a child that still resides in the house. When her son disappears, she is forced to confront the supernatural presence and learn the horrific secrets of the house. While legendary Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is only a producer, he clearly had an active hand in this film’s creation. Never straying into gore, remains a uniquely terrifying and beautifully crafted horror film.
Rated R (17 and up)

Bug
Adapted from the Tracy Letts play of the same name, this is a true psychological horror film. When a schizophrenic army veteran shares a motel room with an emotionally vulnerable woman, he convinces her that the government has infested them with bugs. The tension builds as the line between reality and delusion blurs. Once the madness takes hold, the pace excelerates to an explosive conclusion. With Michael Shannon reprising his role from the play, “The Exorcist” director William Freidkin remains true to the claustrophobic atmosphere of the original stage production. A groundbreaking and incredibly dark play has been captured on the screen.
