December, the favorite month of many people, has decorations all around at every corner. People greatly enjoy it, and they find that December is full of cheerful celebrations with family and friends.
When spending time on break some may struggle to find ways to spend the time, but there is a way to get rid of this boredom: decorating. The Christmas season is always full of decorations and festive fun. A good way to spend the time would be celebrating the season while decorating houses.
Christmas decorations have been around since the 16th century, nowadays we see them everywhere: the park district, community and even surrounding shops. Some may wonder why this tradition started.
Decorating for the holidays is a tradition started by the Romans back in 400 B.C. The Romans celebrated a mid-December feast called Saturnalia. During this feast, festivals were held, and gifts were exchanged. When Christianity was introduced to Rome, Christmas was` celebrated in a similar manner.
Holiday traditions are found within the lives of many.
“While I am not an extreme decorator during the holidays, I like to indulge in slight decorations around my house,” said Biology teacher Mrs. Gina Horne.
When questioned about if her community has the same general traditions as her, it was concluded that they are not major decorators for the holidays. Mrs. Horne expressed her wish to change something about the lack of decorations in her community.
“I want to make it fun for everyone,” Mrs. Horne said.
As Mrs. Horne stated, while most of us may not be extreme decorators it is still fun to indulge, even if it is just small lights around the house.
With the winter season growing nearer and nearer, many begin to prepare their houses with some sort of decorations to welcome the holidays.
