Constant combat and role-playing is a major factor of “The Elder Scrolls” series, a massively popular game series created by Bethesda Softworks. However, this game studio is dealing with constant combat of its own, as issues on the upcoming release of its latest installment, “The Elder Scrolls VI,” are on the horizon.
“The Elder Scrolls VI” is a Dungeons and Dragons-like role-playing game said to be released in 2026 and is the sixth installment in the series. After the release of its massively popular predecessor, “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” in 2011, fans have enjoyed its action-packed gameplay and rich storyline. With such a positive reception of Skyrim, Bethesda Softworks officially announced a sixth installment of the series in 2018. Its announcement brought excitement and foreseeing for fans, along with rumors and controversy on game development.
“The Elder Scrolls VI” has been in a lengthy “pre-production” phase as of 2018 before the early stages of development in August of 2023. Partly the reason behind such extensive development is the release of another game by Bethesda, “Starfield,” which was released in September of 2023. Many fans are upset about how long Bethesda took to find a stable ground for “Elder Scrolls VI,” seeing how the announcement was released seven years after “Skyrim.” Todd Howard, game director of “Elder Scrolls” and “Starfield,” commented in an interview in 2022 about its long-awaited release: “I wish it was soon,” Howard spoke about the anticipation of the game, stating, “We want them out, too. I wish they didn’t take as long as they did, but they do.”
“The Elder Scrolls VI” is one of many games that have been in development for an extended period Across social media platforms, many fans wonder why their anticipated title was announced so long ago yet is still not out. In many interviews, most game programmers came up with the same answer as to why: the size of games.
Bethesda’s previous title, released in 2023, “Starfield,” was famous for its immense size, and the average player spent about 60 hours completing the game. The same website also says that a game released in 2002, takes 12 hours to complete. The increase of content in titles makes for longer development phases.
