It is that time of the year when parent teacher conferences are here. Many parents have mixed opinions about this topic. Some hold the belief that they help students develop and strive to do better in their academics.
“Parent teacher conferences are important,” said one parent. “It is a great opportunity for teachers to share the academic process and foster the growth of students.”
Students also share the same idea, with many supporting its use for growth.
“I agree that Parent teacher conferences are important and helpful,” said sophomore Raewon Kim. “It helps analyze and fix certain academic difficulties which leads to improvement in academics.”
The role of parent teacher conferences goes beyond the classroom as well, even on a national basis, all starting with a group of mothers. To support their mission in eliminating threats that endangered children, The National Parent Teacher Association was founded on February 17, 1897, in Washington, D.C., where it had its first meeting with over 2,000 parents, teachers, workers, and legislators.
Its legacy is great: over 125 years have passed since its founding! The PTA has provided many programs and services such as the creation of kindergarten classes, child labor laws, public health service, hot and healthy lunch programs, juvenile justice systems, mandatory immunization, arts in education, and school safety.
Parent Teacher conferences are organized all around the world and can significantly differ between countries, but its purpose remains unchanged. Parent teacher conferences bring a positive change to not only the Saint Viator community but communities all around the nation.
