Precise process: how new coaches are hired

The seemingly simplistic process of selecting a head coach is one largely based on the mission, vision, and values of the prospective employee, as they are considered for a position in the Viatorian community.
“There is a two tier process” explains Athletic Director Jason Kuffle, “First, if we feelthey are a good fit for our students athletes and community, then we will talk about the X’s and O’s of actually coaching”.
Under the tutelage of Jason Kuffle, many great coaches have been hired to further the athletic programs and compete at exceedingly higher levels of competition. Although the interviewing process can be tedious, it is one of necessity, and some student athletes feel as though they are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the coaching selecting process.
“I feel like the girl’s lacrosse program is overlooked” states sophomore Aleese Warner, “And I am disappointed to see that the program does not have a head coach”.
As the saying goes “Champions are made in the offseason”, thus the need for a head coach proves pressing for the women’s lacrosse program.
Due to the ebbs and flows of demands for coaches, some time periods are more opportunistic for hiring than others,
“We wait until the end of the season because that is when there will be more candidates” Jason Kuffle adds to this statement saying, “We try to give ourselves enough time to bring someone in so they can become comfortable with the kids and the community”.
This concept reintroduces the emphasis on the family that Viator prides itself on being, but also calls to mind the timeliness in which a coach needs to be selected.
Thinking of the season ahead, and wanting to be successful, senior lacrosse player Kylie Adams comments, “As it is my senior year, this was the season I was looking to the most and so far it’s not going the way I thought”.
While there are a handful of factors that play into a final decision, student athletes call for a head coach for their teams. These factors, while time consuming, ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the team and the community as a whole.
