The perfect comedy: Amy Schumer stuns audiences with hilarious ‘Trainwreck’

“Trainwreck” begins with a father teaching his daughters his unconventional views of monogamy. The film then shows a raunchy montage of experiences to prove just how serious one daughter has taken his teachings. From there, the film launches full steam ahead into a post-feminist assault on romantic comedies in the funniest way imaginable.

Written by Amy Schumer and directed by Judd Apatow, “Trainwreck” has the comedic talent behind it necessary to become a success. While Schumer had only previously been known for her standup and television series “Inside Amy Schumer,” she proves that she is currently the strongest comedy writer today. By using all forms of comedy from vulgar to touching, Schumer masterfully crafts a script that provides nonstop laughs while simultaneously developing meaningful characters in a thoughtful plot.

To play the male lead and her love interest in the film, Schumer enrolls “Saturday Night Live” alum Bill Hader, whose innocent charm pairs seamlessly with her crude character. Surprisingly, cameos by LeBron James and John Cena nearly steal the film away from the leads. Without a doubt, though, Schumer has written herself the best character and plays it perfectly.

While Schumer’s raunchy comedy style may turn off some audiences, “Trainwreck” is a impeccably executed film. Schumer shows us familiar life experiences and then points out the ridiculousness of it all. Not only is the film a nearly perfect first attempt at a movie by Amy Schumer, but it is close to a perfect comedy.
