Where the Gilmore girls lead, we will follow
Cult classic TV show returns after 9 years
Television’s favorite mother-daughter duo is back in the new Netflix original series, “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” making its debut on Nov. 25. The miniseries will consist of four episodes; one for each season of the year: fall, winter, spring and summer.
Besides the names of the cast members that have vowed to return to the show, the audience has no knowledge of the plot lines that will be uncovered. Season seven left Rory (Alexis Bledel) on her way to Washington D.C. for a job working as a journalist on the Obama campaign and her mother, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), at peace with her parents and on good terms with longtime, on-off boyfriend Luke (Scott Patterson). Fans are anxious to see what these characters are up to in 2016—almost eight years since the “Gilmore Girls” finale. Anticipation levels are high as three of Rory’s ex-boyfriends will appear: Jess (Milo Ventimiglia), Logan (Matt Czuchry) and Dean (Jared Padaleki). Arguably the most significant star to return to Stars Hollow is comedian Melissa McCarthy, who first rose to fame through her lovable character, Sookie St. James. Though almost every original actor has agreed to star in the quartet of episodes, the absence of Edward Herrmann, who played the beloved Richard Gilmore, will be devastating. Herrmann passed away in 2014.
The show’s biggest fans are hoping to finally resolve one of television’s most unanswered questions: what are the last four words of “Gilmore Girls?” Before leaving the show in 2006 due to contract-related controversies, writers Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Dan revealed they had their own ending of the show in mind and had written the final four words of the series. However, because the CW network assigned new writers to take over the seventh and final season, the world was kept in the dark about the true ending of the show. Until now. Amy Sherman-Palladino has taken the reins of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” and expectations are high. However, one concern remains in the fact that Sherman-Palladino has not seen an episode of the show’s seventh season. Therefore, air-tight storylines cannot be guaranteed.
The possibilities are endless for what this new Netflix original series has in store, but one thing is for certain: where the Gilmore girls lead, we will follow.
