The final season of “Stranger Things” has been labeled disappointing and a major letdown. From unnecessarily slow pacing inhibiting the watching experience to a controversial shift away from the well-loved horror aspects of the earlier seasons, this article aims to explain the tension that’s been in the air since the release of “Stranger Things” season five.
Many people out there are upset about the fact that the Duffer brothers, the creators of the show, focused on sexual preferences in the final moments of the season. Instead of focusing on the fact that Vecna, the main villain of the series, is nearing Hawkins, the main town in the show, they decided to have a twenty-minute prolonged conversation regarding the sexuality of Will, the new main character.
Moreover, people are enraged about Milly Bobby Brown’s lack of screentime, with many saying that she was the original main character and sidelined for a seemingly never-ending list of companion characters. This is a problem that has been brewing for a while, with about every season adding three new characters. The excessive cast takes away from the point of the show and makes it hard for each character’s story to come to a satisfying end.
The people are also quite upset about the difference in the Upside Down from season four to season five. In the fourth season, the Upside Down is made out to be this perilous alternate dimension that’s nearly impossible to reach. In the fifth season, however, it’s depicted as a realm they can enter whenever they please, making it seem like they kids have tamed the entire dimension. The mystery that once enshrouded this area was seemingly ignored in the final season, leaving fans unsatisfied.
Being one of the most highly regarded series of the past decade, “Stranger Things” had a lot to live up to in its final season. Unfortunately, like so many other popular shows, its conclusion is unsatisfying at best and awful at worst.
