The Viator Voice recently spoke with Mrs. Antonia Mosca, the new Italian teacher, to find out more about her as a new addition to our staff. The facts we gathered are as follows.
Where are you from in Italy? —> “I am from Napoli. Very close to Sorrento!”
Why did you want to become a teacher? —> “I enjoy interacting with students, confronting our perspectives. Teaching it’s about inspiring growth, curiosity, and resilience”.
What made you choose Italian to teach? —> “Italian is my native language, and I love to share my cultural background and understand the other’s. I feel like a bridge that can connect students from their home to Italy”.
What would you be if you couldn’t be a teacher —> “It’s a tough question… I can tell you that my “comfort zone” is all about communication”.
Why is Italian important to teach? —> “Italy is a very small country; however, Italian is the language of opera, fashion, cuisine, and centuries of rich tradition — teaching it helps preserve and share this cultural legacy. Furthermore, it is also the language that Pope Leo is speaking right now. I believe it’s worthed to learn!”
How many languages do you speak? —> “I speak Italian, Neapolitan dialect, broken English, Spanish, and I am learning Japanese”.
What is your most memorable or funny moment in class? —> “One day, a student told me that wanted to teach Italian, and that day was pretty cool because I was able to inspire a young mind”.
If you could take the class on a trip to Italy, where would you take us first and why? —> “I am biased… I would take you straight to the South of Italy, like Napoli to have a bite of “real” pizza, or to Capri island to visit the ‘Blue Grotto”, “Augustus Gardens”, or just stroll around the narrow roads. I would take you to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, for their beautiful churches and beach, and Ravello for its stunning view and night concerts”.
What are your thoughts on Saint Viator High School so far?—> “SVHS is deeply committed to fostering academic excellence, personal growth, and a strong sense of community. My Language Department team is amazingly helpful, and my students are extremely bright. I consider myself very lucky to be part of this group!”
