With the new school year beginning, many of us may begin to wonder, what new clubs does Saint Viator have to offer? To that question I present “Saint’s Club”, a club recently founded by Anna Stuber and Megan Newell. Saint’s Club has weekly meetings, each focusing on a different saint. Anna Stuber, one of the club’s founders says how “Our future plans include having a day for an individual saint including a quiet prayer and going to adoration.”
When asked why she created this club she said “My friend and I both enjoy talking about our faith and we realized we didn’t have a class at Saint Viator about saints. We wanted to bring the information and inspiration of the saints to our school!” She continued to describe how a normal meeting would include a 5-10 minutes presentation about the saint of the day, which members of the club can nominate. With reflection questions based on the presentation. Each meeting contains a game based on the saint, with snacks being provided. The other club founder, Megan Newell, when asked on how she would help introduce someone interested to the club, says “If someone is interested, we let them know the meeting times and encourage them to bring friends. We also put them on the email list.” She continued to describe how anyone is welcome to each meeting.
Just like their Saint’s club there are many more, new and old, looking for more members, such as Environmental Club, who is in need of more people to help with recycling on Wednesdays, Justice League, which provides thoughtful discussions on the role of justice in our society, and Art club, which meets once a week and provides supplies and materials for anything you may want to make. Clubs, such as these ones, are an important part of Saint Viator, they build community and friendships based on common interests. Both co-founders, Anna and Megan heavily encourage anyone interested in learning more about Saints, or anyone who wants to be more involved in a club to come to one of their meetings.
