“Logan” is a violent yet touching and heartwarming story that is a captivating departure from the genre, with a more human take on the superhuman world of the X-men.

Its R rating is a result of the gruesome carnage created by the grizzled wolverine Hugh Jackman portrays in the film. The bloody fight scenes depicted are not for the faint of heart, but if you are able to get past the violence, the emotional journey of Logan is no less treacherous. The rugged, brutish Wolverine we have come to know is given the chance to flesh out his character, and unleash the rage that he has held in the entire franchise. Although he is a mutant, the character portrayed by Hugh Jackman is more human than most. Alongside the spectacular story and the incredible action sequences, the deep emotional struggle faced by our tired hero is enough to create one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time.

Other movies such as “Fast and Furious” are non-stop entertainment due to the constant car chases and explosions, but Logan maintains this level of entertainment in its compelling storyline and characters alone. The action is not lost when the claws retract and it continues to engross the audience throughout. The thing that makes “Logan” so entertaining is how relatable it is. In the fantastic world of superheroes it is hard to relate to the characters, apart from wishing you were them. Instead, the movie takes the invincible wolverine and shows him in his old age, frustrated and withered by the tests of time. Logan takes the wonder and excitement of superhero movies and brings it down to a very human and relatable place.

“Logan” is Hugh Jackman’s last performance as Wolverine and it is hard to think of a more perfect end for the character. If you haven’t seen “Logan” yet, I implore you to treat yourself to one of the best superhero movies ever made.
