For many student athletes, their senior season in high school marks the end of their athletic journey. This is not the case for the seven seniors that signed their official commitments to play college level sports on November 13th. With athletes ranging from football to lacrosse to baseball to golf, the Viator athletics program is proud to promote the successes of many students, with the numbers continuing to grow.
For women’s lacrosse, Riley Ohrel signed to Xavier University, Aleese Warner signed to Radford University, and Avery Brooks signed to Davis and Elkins College. These three girls represent the strength of the lacrosse program, but they also value the quality of education at the colleges they plan to attend.
“I like the mix of athletics and academics,” Ohrel said to saintviator.com.
Similarly, Lily Zicarelli told Saint Viator she “liked the size of the school and the small student-to-teacher ratio” at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where she committed to play golf.
Aside from these four girls, baseball players Brock Harer and Ryan Jackson will bring their talents to the collegiate level as well. Harer will play at Winona State University and Jackson to Grinnell College.
Their coach, Terry Beyna, was proud of his players as they signed their commitments. “[Brock] will be a great addition to their program,” said Beyna to saintviator.com. “Ryan is talented athletically, he loves baseball, he’s a great defender.”
Lastly, Ben Konopka prepares for bootcamp as he signs his intent to play football at West Point. His coach, Dave Archibald, told to saintviator.com, “Ben choosing West Point is a victory for him, for Army, and for our country.”
These seven athletes represent some of the best in the Viator community, and athletic director Mike Obsuszt knows it.
“They’re committing to playing college athletics,” Obsuszt to saintviator.com. “That’s impressive. These teams are getting quality players.”
Although these seven athletes signed officially in November, several more Viator athletes have announced verbal commitments and will sign at the spring signing day in the new year.
