School has a wide variety of different and unique clubs you can choose from. Whether that be art, history, math, literature or science club, there is always some extracurricular to choose from. What about the clubs that Saint Viator doesn’t have? Here’s what some students thought should be available clubs to join: a sign language club, a basic medical education club, an advanced placement economics club, a home economics club, and an architecture club.
“I think that sign language would be a good club because it would be fun and could help us be able to communicate with more people,” said Chloe Weaver, junior. There could be multiple levels of this club too, such as: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. It could teach the basics of sign language and would open up more job opportunities like being a professional sign language interpreter. There could be fun trips this club goes on to help communicate with the deaf. Speaking of opening up job opportunities, the next club, basic medical education, would also be great at doing that.
“I believe that a basic medical knowledge club should be added to what we offer at St. Viator because learning how to do CPR or the heimlich could potentially save a life one day,” said junior Veronica Soldo. This club could be available to any student who wants to be a doctor or work in the medical field when they grow up. It would teach, like Veronica said, basic medical knowledge like CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and any other skills needed to save a life. This club would apply skills from biology. This would help people see how the things they learn in school can apply to the real world. The next club that would also prepare you very well for the field that it covers. That club is all economics. All economics was suggested by a sophomore who wishes to remain anonymous.
“An all economics club would be a good club to have because it teaches a student about everything from filing taxes to investment. It could incorporate the current investment club. This would appeal to people who want to study business,” said the student. This club would teach students everything they need to know about economics, ultimately training them for their future pursuit of economics. This club would be available for anyone who wants to study economics and business and would get them ready for any job related to these fields. Speaking of economics, the next club suggested was home economics.
Home economics was suggested by sophomores Juliana Milano and Juliet Sheldon.
“Home economics would be fun and help prepare you for life after you finish school,” said Milano and Sheldon. This club would be available to anyone who wants to participate in it and would teach about many aspects of household management, including cooking, family relationships and interior design. It would enlighten students about how to run a family and how to make sure that your relationships are happy and healthy. The only problem that might arise from this is finding a place to do the cooking part of the club, but, other than that, this would be a great club to have available here at Saint Viator. This club may be about managing a home, but the last club would be about designing a home. That club being architecture.
“I would say architecture because it is super cool to see if that’s something you want to do in the future,” said sophomore Elizabeth Schermerhorn. Architecture club could teach about the art and technique of designing and building. It would help students who want to study architecture to learn basic skills they can apply in the future. It would be a fun club to join to understand American infrastructure.
Although there might be many clubs available to participate in at Saint Viator, it is always nice to think about some clubs that aren’t offered yet. These will help provide students of Saint Viator new opportunities. Of course not all clubs can be offered, but these clubs may be some that are seen in the future.
