The ice was more vibrant than usual on Oct. 12 to honor the survivors of breast cancer with Saint Viator Hockey’s Pink the Rink games. The student section was full of supportive family members and friends who came to watch the three teams play. After the junior varsity game against Lake Forest, a ceremony was held to honor attending survivors of breast cancer—a heartwarming sight.
“I think it’s important that sports lead the way and set a good example,” coach Jason Hogan said. “This is one of the biggest events of the year.” It is important to understand why Pink the Rink games are hosted.
“To honor people with breast cancer, it’s a really important night for everyone, we have a lot of families who have been affected by it,” said Coach Hogan.
The first game of the night was the junior varsity team—a 5-2 loss against Lake Forest. The following games were both wins, one against Lake Forest and one against Marmion. The varsity team won 5-0 with two goals from senior Aidan O’Neill, and the varsity 2 team won 3-0 against Marmion.
“The game was super competitive, exciting and thrilling, but, most of all, it showed support for all those who have and still are fighting the battle against breast cancer,” said sophomore Olivia Jackson. Each and every member of the student section was roaring with energy throughout all games. Attending such a special event was truly a night to remember.
