As most of the community knows, Mr. Aiello has been appointed as the new president of Saint Viator High School. Many have seen him walking around the school with his red sneakers. Even though Mr. Aiello has been at Saint Viator for a short while, he has a lot to say about his experience.
Mr. Aiello has had quite a positive experience with the people at Saint Viator. He loves the fight song and greeting everyone in the mornings. Mr. Aiello is a very social person, so students should say “hello” as they see him walking through the hallways.
Mr. Aiello wanted to share a few positive things he has liked about Saint Viator: “The thing I like most about Saint Viator is the people. I have felt such a warm welcome from the community here since I interviewed way back in February. I’ve loved interacting with students, teachers and parents alike. Over the past 20 years I’ve worked in a lot of schools, but I’ve never seen one where 50+ alumni get on stage after an event to sing the fight song!”
Many see Mr. Aiello as he stands outside of the school greeting students entering Saint Viator in the morning. Mr. Aiello says he wants to take Saint Viator to move in a more positive direction.
“My hope is that over the next few years, I will be able to help keep the school moving in a really positive direction. Whether it’s being outside in the parking lot in the morning; whether it’s meeting students in the classroom. It is really important to me to be involved in the everyday life of the school. My hope is that I’ll be able to meet more and more students and hopefully, by the end of the year, I’ll have everyone’s name memorized. Can’t promise it yet, but that’s the goal.” Mr. Aiello said.
Saint Viator’s students reciprocate Mr. Aiello’s goal and would like to get to know him better as well. To start, Mr. Aiello has a young son.
“My son is turning seven, and so I enjoy playing with him.” said Mr. Aiello. He also enjoys playing sports with his son.
“I really enjoy playing with him. Right now it is soccer season, soon it’ll be baseball again.” he said.
In addition, Mr. Aiello used to be an English teacher.
“I am an avid reader… I don’t get to read as much as I want to, but I always love picking up a book.” he said.
Mr. Aiello’s passion for reading makes him a wonderful person to talk about books with.
In his spare time, Mr. Aiello enjoys watching movies.
“I am a little bit of a movie nerd. I like watching films too.” said Mr. Aiello.
Mr. Aiello likes all types of movies and films. However, he doesn’t have a particular favorite.
“[Choosing a film is like] picking a favorite child, you can’t pick a favorite.” he said. If students are interested in filmmaking, Mr. Aiello is the guy. “I used to teach film classes at the University of Nebraska.” he said.
Some students wanted to know more about Mr. Aiello as a high schooler.
“I grew up in the teachers’ lounge (my dad was a high school history teacher and coach) so I was ‘in’ high school long before I was actually enrolled. There wasn’t a Catholic high school within an hour of where I grew up, so I attended the public high school where my dad taught. I have so many fond memories of my teachers and friends there. [A] few that stand out are: wearing a pink suit to prom in honor of ‘The Great Gatsby,’ winning the Chemistry Days competition at Butte College, having my shoe collection featured in the yearbook and winning championships in Basketball and Track & Field.” he said.
Mr. Aiello had a wonderful high school experience, and he wants to make sure that all of Saint Viator’s students can experience the same joy he experienced in high school.
In conclusion, Mr. Aiello is a person who has made the most out of his high school experience. He enjoys reading, movies and sports. Mr. Aiello’s mission is to make sure that positivity is spread throughout Saint Viator. He wants to build a stonger community. Positivity has been the focus of the Saint Viator administration this year, and, under Mr. Aiello’s guidance, Saint Viator will further become a place where students can learn, socialize and have fun.
