If you’re reading this, the odds are you were a freshman or are currently a freshman. As freshmen, we are the future of the school. These next four years will be our four years of high school. But as of now we are only one month into those four years. For this section I am going to share how my experience of freshman year has been.
Going into my first day of school, I had no idea what I was walking into. I only knew that I had to attend freshman orientation. Freshman orientation was a standard first day, except we didn’t walk our schedules. We got a mini school tour, but I would soon find out that it was handy for knowing relative location, and not for memorizing where each class is. After noticing the doors all have their a number on them, I was able to find my classes.
A big lesson I learned in my first two weeks of school is that homework in high school is a lot more rigorous than in middle school. The homework in middle school was thirty minutes total. But in high school, I’m spending roughly an hour doing homework every night. This was an adjustment I had to make, but I don’t mind the extra homework because of the block schedule. The block schedule is awesome for getting homework done. It’s great because it also gives you more of a reason to knock out all of your homework in one day so that you can have a day off of homework. As a freshman, the block schedule has been amazing to adjust to the extra homework load. The block schedule has been one of my favorite things about Saint Viator. Block schedule was incredibly effective because I can focus on one class for longer without switching concentration onto a different subject.
So far my high school experience has been good, and I have learned a lot already. But I’m just one of the many new people at the school. I’m have a perspective giving insight into what the first few months have been like for a freshman, but what about the teachers? Viator has many new teachers this school year. Mr. Witek is one of many. Mr. Witek shared a bit about his first month at Viator.
“I feel really good about it. Everybody’s been really awesome, you as the students have been working very hard and it’s been a lot of fun,” said history teacher Mr. Witek. Not only are the new students doing well, so are the new teachers.
Overall, the Viator experience so far has been great, and I’m glad I came to this school. Though the homework is time consuming, I’ve learned a lot. In conclusion, I’m excited to continue experiencing new things at Saint Viator.
