The football team pulled off a win against the Hyde Park Thunderbirds at home with a final score of 41-6 on Saturday, Sept. 7. The game was a triumph for the Lions, who came ahead with the lead early on.
In the first half, the Lions pulled ahead early on in the game, with a 34-0 lead on three touchdown plays. Senior quarterback Cooper Kmet had three total touchdowns, including two touchdown passes to senior Dayvion Ellis.
The second half was still unproductive for the Thunderbirds and most of the starters for the Lions were subbed out. Senior Michael Tauscher scored the only touchdown for the Lions for the rest of the game on a 6-yard rush. Although futile, Hyde Park was finally able to put some points on the board from a touchdown pass in the final four minutes of the game.
“It was good play-calling… We went out there and executed. Everyone did their job,” said Ellis. “It all starts at practice, and we [went] out there and just started playing.”
With the win at the home opener, the Lions move to 2-0 and rank 71st in the state.
