Athletes—or anyone who frequents the Murphy Wellness Center—may have seen a new face walking around. That is Coach Eric Krasich, the new head strength and conditioning coach. Coach Krasich grew up playing all sorts of sports, particularly volleyball where he played both in college and overseas for a bit. Now he has been coaching for the last six or seven years in volleyball at all levels as well as strength and conditioning.
When it comes to strength and conditioning training, he has many goals.
“I would like to build buy-in from everybody,” said Krasich. “Kind of implement my systems, my vision for this.”
These systems include hoping that upperclassmen begin to take on a role of helping get more people involved, as well as generally keeping everyone healthy and away from injury. The biggest goal?
“Get everybody to move efficiently; be better movers overall,” said Krasich.
Coming in as the new coach may pose some challenges, but Krasich believes that building a strong connection with each and every athlete will be the key to success.
“The best way for me to get everybody on board,” said Krasich, “is to learn who you are while you guys learn who I am.”
Building relationships and finding common ground is how everyone can get better.
Over his years coaching, Coach Krasich brings with him to Viator the main values he roots his programs in: discipline and a growth mindset. He stresses the importance of the journey rather than the end goal.
“We can eliminate the fear of failure,” said Krasich. “We can go do hard things and understand that we’re going to get there eventually.”
He also believes that these values translate into all aspects of life, not just training in the weight room. From the sports that athletes are training for, to the classroom, to life after graduation, having a good mindset will ultimately be the key to achieving goals.
Coach Krasich is hopeful and excited for the future of the strength and conditioning program, but he shares his biggest concern: “Learning everybody’s names!”
