The Lions kept high spirits against ranked Prospect High School in the recent girls basketball game and fought competitively, keeping a deficit of less than twenty points. However, even with a losing score of 66-41, some of the Lady Lions took home personal wins from the game.
Senior Mia Bergstrom is one of the individuals who capitalized against the Knights. Throughout the game, she accounted for thirty-six of the forty-one points scored, a personal career high. This stellar game puts Bergstrom within a couple points of 1500 total career points during her entire time at Saint Viator.
Although Bergstrom accounted for a majority of the points, she wasn’t the only player on the court.
“[The team] did a good job setting up ball screens and playing off my shot, whether that was pumping or driving,” said Bergstrom.
Ultimately, win or lose, the team has been a testimony to the camaraderie of athletics, as well how that shows up during competition.
“The girls are the most fun part about playing and it’s been translating on the court in these last few games.” said Bergstrom.
”I love all my teammates and they just make the experience so much better.” said junior Kyli Zeibka. “Basketball has helped me grow as an individual [and] become more competitive.”
Though the Lady Lions haven’t experienced the success they hoped for this season, the teamwork and bond between individuals has made this season one still worth remembering.
Editor’s note: Mia achieved the 1500 point benchmark within the next 2 games.
