The start of the ’23-’24 school year welcomed students with the arrival of many new things such as air conditioning and new floors. Towards the end of last year, Burks’ Place opened up. Still, there are many updates ready to arrive at Saint Viator, and one of them is the arrival of interactive displays.
Interactive displays will be replacing the projectors and SMART boards that are in classrooms right now.
“Interactive displays are essentially computers with a monitor on it,” said Director of Technology Mr. Charles Rocha. “They are used to enhance the classroom, and the faculty members’ ability to teach.”
The displays are touchscreens and can be used when connected to a computer as well, allowing teachers the ability to project from anywhere in the room. Students will also be able to work out problems on these boards. Another huge benefit is that anything written on the boards can be converted into PDFs, something that current technology in the classrooms cannot do. The displays will also be much bigger than the current projectors and have higher resolutions.
Many students are looking forward to this change to enhance their education.
“The new devices will help me learn because I can study diagrams better with a higher resolution screen,” said sophomore Aleks Paskiewicz. “They will also help me because I can draw on the board directly.”
These interactive displays are part of Phase 1 of the “Igniting Our Community” campaign. Phase 1 includes renovations to buildings, with examples of Burks’ Place, new chapel renovations, and air conditioning. Although the time has not been specified, the interactive displays will arrive in groups for each department. Students can expect more interactive displays to start popping up throughout this year and others, too.
According to Mr. Rocha, there will also be a new firewall coming to the school this year.
