The varsity football team was eliminated from the playoffs in a loss against the Wheaton Academy Warriors with a final score of 3-12.
The game was defensive focused from the start as the first quarter yielded only a field goal for Wheaton Academy. In addition, the Warriors defense forced a Viator fumble at their own 39 yard line.
In the second quarter, WA scored the first and only touchdown of the game. After a blocked PAT, the Warriors had a 9 point lead going in halftime, while the Viator offense continued to struggle.
“We could have done better on the offensive side of the ball,” said junior Sean McAndrews.
In the 2nd half, the SVHS only managed a field goal making the score SVHS – 3 WA – 9.
“Our defense did a good job, but I wish we played up to our full potential on offense,” said junior defensive back Justin Culver.
On the very next drive, Wheaton Academy fumbled in the Viator end zone, and the ball was recovered by Viator for a touchback. However, the offensive drive following the fumble recovery only ended in a punt.
Wheaton Academy had two field goal attempts, one being blocked, to seal out the win while the Viator offense was 0/8 on third down conversions.
“The defense played hard and pushed up on yards, but we didn’t take shots on offense,” said senior wide receiver Driese Rapp.
