Wrestler Dan Gable states, “If you’re afraid to fail, you’ll never succeed.” As the fall season comes to an end, the winter season approaches. One of the many winter sports being offered is wrestling.
Wrestling has gone through many challenges. Last year the team received an entirely new coaching staff.
Varsity wrestler, Elliott Heckard ‘25, begins, “I started wrestling my freshman year having no prior experience. It was tough, but super fun and rewarding. My sophomore year we had a whole new coaching staff which turned out great and the program is well on its way to developing into a true powerhouse. This year is incredibly important as it is going to set the precedent for future years of Saint Viator wrestling. We are slated to have a full team of wrestlers with experience, so this is a year that the team truly has a shot. We’ve been busy preparing for the season and have been working on conditioning, strength, and technique with the athletes. With the season starting in less than a month, there’s still work to do, but we’re almost ready.” As you can see, wrestling has gone through many changes. They had a great season last year.
Wrestler Daniel Chacia ‘26, states “Wrestling is a great program because it helps improve physical and mental strength. It will improve discipline which can be carried over to other sports. Wrestling also teaches strategy and skill you will remember for the rest of your life. Others should join it to make[ ]new friends, learn new skills, and to compete with people.” Wrestling is a great program for those who are looking for a fun engaging winter sport. It will help people stay in shape throughout winter. Looking to meet others? Join wrestling.
