Nothing says “soccer” like a cold, rainy, autumn afternoon. On Oct. 13, the varsity boys soccer team took on Benet in their final regular season game. The two teams battled in the rain, but at the tenth minute, Benet knocked in a goal. Determined to get one back, the Lions picked up the intensity. However, as the game got rougher, the first yellow card was awarded to senior Charlie O’Connor. At half, the score was still zero for Viator and one for Benet.
The second half started with newfound determination from the Lions. They displayed precise passing sequences and fired off several shots, just nearly missing the goal each time. The Lions could not manage to put one in the back of the net, so they walked away with a tough loss, but captain Gabriel Glodz had words for his team.
“It takes a strong team to keep your head up and keep winning…Keep your heads up, alright?” said Glodz. “Our season is nowhere near over!”
His rousing speech was followed by cheers from the previously sullen looking team.
The Lions now head into the playoffs with a season record of 7-9-5 and a conference record of 4-2-2.
