Imagine yourself walking into a Hobby Lobby on a hot, beautiful, sunny July day. Fourth of July is your favorite summer event, the carnivals, the food, the fireworks, and the heat. You walk in getting some fourth of July decorations, when Christmas is shoved in your face the moment you walk in.
Every year in every retail store, Christmas decorations are displayed months in advance. Stores receive shipments at alarmingly early months of the year, so Christmas products simply sit in our back rooms for months. Stores don’t want to have Christmas decor stock in February so aim to get rid of it by the end of holidays.
Although having these products out early is a smart marketing tactic, it can be overwhelming on people. Seeing Santa Claus and his reindeer next to the beach supplies is just not right.
In addition, this premature decoration selling occurs only with Christmas-themed products, so those who don’t celebrate may feel annoyed with the holiday shoved in their face.
Even though placing Christmas decorations out for sale early is a brilliant marketing tactic, it is excessive and irritating.
