Students expand athletic fronts across the nation
Spring is in the air, and the one thing on everyone’s mind is spring break. For many students, this is the time to take a much needed break from their studies and explore new places while dreaming of summer. For some, this means traveling to sunny beaches for relaxation, while for others, it means hitting the slopes for the last couple days of skiing and snowboarding. However, for some of our spring athletes, spring break is the time for their annual trips.
This year the boys lacrosse players are headed down to Naples Florida to participate in the Trilogy Lacrosse Spring Break Training Program. For those boys going down to Naples they will get to practice in state of the art facilities and play premier programs from around the country including West Linn from Oregon, Hackley from New York, and Columbus Academy from Ohio. Besides our lacrosse players, the girls soccer team is going to Missouri, our varsity softball is going to Murfreesboro Tennessee, and our baseball team is heading to Arizona.
“I’m pretty excited about it,” said senior baseball player John Krause. “We can’t wait to show them what the Saint Viator Lions can do.”
For all these teams, no matter the sport, the trips typically last for several days and include a variety of activities for the team both on and off the field. Players stay together locally in a hotel and share team meals while practicing and participating in other team-building activities. Also, they provide a valuable opportunity for teams to bond and build relationships off the field. By spending time together outside of practice and games, teammates develop a sense of camaraderie and mutual support that is invaluable in the heat of competition. For the seniors on the team attending these trips for the last time, this is one of their last opportunities to play together with their friends and teammates.
As spring break approaches, it’s time to start counting down the days until you can ditch the textbooks and hit the road. Whether you’re hitting the beach, the mountains, or going with your team, one thing’s for certain: it’s time to relax and have some fun! Just remember it’s about making memories that will last a lifetime (and for those going south, hopefully not getting a sunburn that lasts just as long).
