From Twitter to tabloids, Trump fizzles

With “Make America Great Again” as his slogan,Trump has become one of America’s most controversial leaders to have ever sat in the Oval Office. Controversial or not, the part about Trump that matters is whether he and his Republican majority are fulfilling their promises that they were elected upon and actually making America great. Some of Trump’s key campaign promises were: building a wall at the expense of Mexico, getting rid of Obamacare, and reducing the national debt. While the stock market may be booming due to his being elected, Trump has not done much on the promises he made.

The border wall is in development, but it is coming out of the pockets of the taxpayers rather than Mexico. With the debt that our country is already in, should we continue to spend money we don’t have? While building a wall along the border would be a rather productive way of making our country safer and reducing illegal immigration, increasing our debt to do so is not the best way to do it.

Alongside Trump’s failure to reduce the debt and have Mexico pay for the wall, Obamacare has yet to have been replaced. While there was a strong attempt to do such early in his presidency, that attempt failed despite having a majority in the House and Senate. Replacing Obamacare was a key part for many voters, and the lack of true action so far has been terrible. While this does not all fall on Trump as there are the Republicans in the House and Senate that have not helped in this, as President of the United States part of Trump’s job is to unify for a common goal. He has not been able to unify his own party for a goal that many stated that they supported, which is a major downside to his presidency. Trump has only been in power for barely a year, but so far it has not gone as planned. Trump must take action on his promises sooner rather than later, or else his chances for reelection will likely plummet.
