Justice served after new film release
“Justice League” is not a perfect film by any means, but it does begin to recover from the faults of the previous DC films. It breaks free of the dark tone and creates a real sense of joy for the audience. Being able to see these huge comic book characters together on screen for the first time is truly a spectacle, and the film embraces it. The characters work well together and their diversity makes it stand out from the various Marvel films.
Each league member has a more distinct personality than that of the Marvel characters, who joke around almost nonstop. It has a much lighter tone than some of the previous DC films which is a welcomed step in the right direction. DC struggles with balancing their movies and showing difficulties with having a dark film that is still entertaining and enjoyable. Dark films can be done well, but DC is better off working toward a lighter tone than continuing to produce miserable films. Not all films have to deal with huge concepts or have true emotional depth.
Some films can just be pure escapism, a break from the bleak reality of the real world. “Man of Steel” and “Batman V Superman” were dark, gritty films that tried to portray these beloved heroes as troubled and depressed. Audiences need a break from this kind of dreariness, and “Justice League” provides. It is, at its core, a fun superhero experience.
It may not be a well structured film, but the lack of plot made room for more interactions between these classic characters. Part of the reason the Justice League is such a great team is that it is made up of very different superheroes; Batman is dark, Superman is hopeful, and The Flash is comedic. Every member brings something unique to the team, and that was what the film got right.
While great, the Avengers constantly joke around, and their personalities can sometimes feel too similar. “Justice League” creates a well-balanced team that makes for a very enjoyable superhero romp.
