Dear diary,

About thirty years ago, the iconic 80’s movie “Heathers” was released. The movie keeps you at the edge of your seat, as Veronica (Winona Ryder) tries to get revenge on her three “best friends” called the “Heathers.” Veronica in her popularity, also meets an unsavory character Jason Dean who goes by JD (Christian Slater). This combination of the 3 Heathers, football players, JD and a dreadful senior year all leads to some Big Fun.

This classic comedy horror is nostalgic and reminiscent of high school struggles. If you are a lover of the romantic, gorey, scary and hilarious movies this Heathers is for you. Preferable if watching with friends, siblings or by yourself, if you think you can handle it. Heathers is guaranteed to go on your movie favorites list. (And it’s on Netflix!)

Now as interesting and cliche that may sound, how could it get any better? Well color me stoked because twenty-six years after the movie, “Heathers” is out on an off-broadway production. Sticking with the same story-line from the movie, the musical takes the tone and changes it. The movie is filled with an eerie setting while the musical is happy and cheerful, but makes sure to keep the eeriness in the back of your mind. In relation to music, the most important part, “Heathers The Musical” is not like the typical musical. Instead of slow and sad songs or happy and cheerful music, “Heathers” has very different but catchy songs that get straight to the point. Of all musicals, “Heathers” has a song about chilling out at a 7-11 drinking a slushie.

Settle in folks and grab that slushie because “Heathers” will soon be a TV series. There were very mixed reviews once the announcement was made. Numerous people are against the idea because when movies or musicals are remade on tv, the remakes haven’t performed to expectations. When this happens, the viewing audiences become very disappointed. There are those who are overly ecstatic about the new show and are counting down the days until the premier. Sadly, it isn’t coming out until  early 2018 and there isn’t an exact date yet. But the 10 episode series will debut on the Paramount network. As JD says, “The extreme always seems to make an impression.” We’ll just have to wait and see what kind of impression this show will have on us.
