What better way to express the fine arts at Saint Viator and enjoy the spring season than to have a Spring Arts Festival? The concert will be on May 13 and will showcase aspects of the art, choral, theatre and band departments. The visual arts showcase includes pieces created by students enrolled in art classes this year featuring photoshop, intro to visual arts and visual arts, sculpting, 3D and 2D art, and digital art. The “Best in Shows Award will be given along with the “Principal Purchase Award,” which will remain on display in the commons. Mr. Faltinowski has been working with a lot of 3D pieces in his classes which will be particularly showcased, along with many of Mr. Matt Gruenfeld’s digital photographs from the iPad Media class.

“Come by and check out the show,” said art teacher Mr. Gruenfeld. “Even if you can’t see the performances you can view the pieces that will be displayed in commons.

Along with the art aspect of the show, concert choir, treble choir and chamber singers also will perform. These choirs have been working on many tunes since returning from Christmas break that will be showcased in this event.

“I am particularly excited to showcase the increase in technique and difficulty in music selection and the overall growth as an ensemble,” says Mr. Daniel Walls, the choir director. Theatre will also participate in the festival by doing improvisational games, focusing on voice, gestures and the development of characters, along with audience participation.

“The festival provides something for everyone, and theatre especially provides the comedic aspect of the show,” said Mrs. Kate Costello, the head of the theatre department.

Last but certainly not least, band’s participation in the festival will specifically include performances by the concert band, symphonic band, jazz band and percussion ensemble. Band has been working on a variety of styles, adding difficulty and studying types of literature to better understand their music for the concert.

“Check out the show, especially if you have friends in any of the arts; it is really a showcase of the school,” said Mr. Vince Genualdi, the band director.
