The Dark Side

I fear that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is going to have a negative impact on the original classic Star Wars films and prequels. I think that by adding several new characters, such as Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, and BB-8, it will change the entire idea that George Lucas had when he first created the Star Wars films. I think they should have kept the old characters and focused on their experiences after “Return of The Jedi” rather than creating all new characters, civilizations, heroes and villains. The new characters take away from the experience of watching the old trilogy. They could have also brought back some of the other characters that had disappeared from some of the previous films, such as Yoda and Obi-Wan. This could have added more drama and action to the new film.

Disney being suddenly involved in such an iconic film series may either make the movie become a generic copy of the originals or take it too far with their ability to use CGI technology

From what I can tell from the trailers, “The Force Awakens” may be just another interpretation of the very first movie, “A New Hope,” but with different characters and planets. Disney may have decided to simply change tiny details, but keep the basic plot structure the same?
Disney being suddenly involved in such an iconic film series may either make the movie become a generic copy of the originals or take it too far with their ability to use CGI technology. The new lightsaber also is a completely new added prop, created by Disney.
Many people had reservations that the prequels were not going to be as amazing as the originals. This event is no different. Disney moving the setting thirty years after the events in “Return of the Jedi” makes the old movies an old folk tale.
All in all, I am still hopeful that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be another great Star Wars movie.
