Smoothies being delicious is something I think most of us can agree on. I bet that there are people out there that love them so much that they drink them daily. But how far are you willing to go with that love of smoothies? How much are you willing to spend to satisfy your urge for a cold, refreshing drink?
For a lot of people, that number may be somewhat large. As students, however, we have a very limited budget for refreshments. Even if you take into account those that are employed that have a bit more freedom with their money, there are still plenty of students that are unemployed. If you’re someone like me, jobless and totally reliant on others for your money, you can’t afford to allocate too much money for “side-refeshments”. Surely not much as is currently being charged.
But I’m not the only one concerned. Listen to freshman varsity football player, and diehard smoothie fan, AJ Polizze.
“Drink prices right now are outrageous, especially smoothies and milkshakes,” said AJ. He described how they may be good but not quite worth the price.
Freshman Jayden Payton shared a similar opinion. “They’re good, but not that good,” Jayden said.
Now that you’ve seen the opinions of myself and some of the freshmen, consider the opinion of sophomore Jack Hogan. In his interview, while still strongly advocating for cheaper smoothies, he came up with possible ways to help the school make current smoothie prices a little more worth it. His ideas included a possible “cash-back” program, where students receive a free or discounted item for repeated patronage. He also came up with the idea of toppings or greater customization for orders.
But what do I really think about the smoothies here at Saint Viator? To me, I believe that changes, such as fresher ingredients, or greater quality control would go a very long way to help students get a better bang for their buck. Now all we have to do is wait, and hopefully some of the changes and ideas that were mentioned in this article may make their way into Burks Place. But for now, only time will tell.
