Finding the amount of moles on an atom’s face is undoubtedly difficult, and finding yourself amidst the trenches of kinematics might be arguably worse. However, the hatred for science suddenly dissipates when one problem is solved correctly and everything else falls into place, science becomes fun and calculated instead of hard and confusing. This feeling of understanding is chased by many but was found by few as there were only individual, scheduled, meetings with science teachers, and seeking help was inconvenient and often difficult. That feeling is now foreign and gone, now we have the Science Lab, colloquially referred to as the chem/phys lab, where students can see teachers during Lion Block or their study halls to receive help.
“The physics lab helps me know where my teacher is during all of Lion Block, allowing easier access to homework help,” said junior Elizabeth Schermerhorn, speaking on the convenience of the science lab. This serves as an aid for students to receive quick clarification on assignments or concepts in a timely manner during a study hall or Lion-Block period.
The Science Lab was just recently created in October, offering help from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology teachers.
“I noticed that there was a math workshop, a writing workshop, and I thought, we should have a science one,” said physics teacher Ms. Sheila Edstrom. The Science Lab allows for one-on-one learning tools that students can utilize if they have trouble on a specific concept, or if they have to make up a missed lab, quiz, or test.
Similarly, Chemistry teacher Mr. Neil Flink said, “…it’s making it so much easier on the teachers and on the students to find a time to actually do them [labs]”. This makes it more manageable when a day of school is missed; students can stop by the Science lab and catch up on missed work instead of attempting to hunt down teachers and coordinate conflicting schedules.
Subsequently, the more labs that get done, the more knowledge there is available to be cultivated. The new Science Lab is a perfect way to expand your mind and chase the rewarding feeling of understanding, maybe, possibly, even having fun in doing so.
