For the first time in 20 years the Saint Viator boys soccer team is ranked number 1 in their sectional. Their conference record of 4-0-2 has earned them the number 3 spot in the East Suburban Catholic Conference, ESCC, over hard-to-beat teams like Carmel. Their overall record of 10-4-2 has allowed them to be 65 out of over 390 schools in the state of Illinois.
In last year’s game against Nazareth Academy, they lost 1-2 to them. In their very first conference game of the 2025 season, against Nazareth, the boys dominated with a 3-0 win. Just six days later, they faced Marist who were 10-7 last year, the team swept the Marist Red Hawks with a 2-0 victory. Just days later, they played Niles Notre Dame College Prep, earning a crushing victory of 3-0. In their 4th conference game of the season, they completely dominated Marist Catholic High School once again, in a 8-0 win. In their game against St. Patrick High School, the game ended in a 2-2 draw, ending the game with a penalty shootout. A couple days later, the boys lost to Benet Academy with a 3-5 score.
The team participated in the Jacob Norys Memorial Tournament this year, a tournament hosted by Woodstock High School honoring the life of their former student Jacob Norys who sadly passed away in 2012. The team beat Woodstock North High School, who is 1st in their conference, 1-0. To win the championship, they took out Lakes High School with a 2-0 victory. Last year, the team was 2-6 in conference, finishing 8th in the ESCC. They had an overall record of 3-18. This year, the team has a conference record of 4-2, standing at 3rd in the ESCC. They currently have an overall record of 10-4-1, they are looking towards bigger and better things.
“Coach has helped the boys grow in their mindset, like the trip to Columbia which helped us see how the sport impacts the real world,” said sophomore Thomas Mepham. It’s little things which helped the boys grow over the summer and morph into a successful team. Many of the boys expressed their hopes to make it to the state final game and hope to bring home a trophy for Saint Viator.
