The boys’ and girls’ track teams are ready to race into the new season. They hope to build upon last year’s season and continue to improve. They obviously hope to place highly in as many meets as they can, but their goals are not all based on winning.

“Our goals for the season are to really develop the team,” said girls’ head coach Ms. Kelli Wosick. “We have a lot of freshman girls on the team, and then it’s also taking those couple of older girls we have that have been through all this already and developing them into the leaders of the team.”

“Our goal is to send as many events and runners down to the state meet as possible,” said sophomore runner Kevin Goss. Last year the team sent a few runners to the state meet, but this year it hopes to increase that number. The team has been working hard all during the off-season to prepare for a successful season.

What constitutes a successful season? “To make this season successful, it is important to work hard and not give up, but at the same time we have to keep a positive mindset and encourage each other,” said sophomore runner John Leininger.

“As long as my girls have fun, that to me is success,” said Ms. Wosick “Yes, I want my girls to do well individually, but the whole point is to have fun.” As aforementioned, the track team is working very hard. “We’ve got practice six days a week, Monday through Saturday. A lot of time we are working on speed and running outside. We’re also in the weight room with Coach Rich McLaughlin all the time.”

Both the boys’ and girls’ track teams are working extremely hard in preparation for the running season.

“We’re doing both running outside and lifting in the weight room to prepare for meets and build strength,” said Leininger.
